Three checks before you trust a sold price

How many sales is it built on? The count is next to the median. Five sales is a hint, fifty is a market.

Is it the same item? Scan the titles. If cases, boxes or parts are in there, add minus words such as iphone 15 -case -box and search again.

Were they negotiated? The Best Offer column shows which sales closed through an accepted offer. Those rows show what the buyer paid. eBay's own sold page shows the asking price on the same sales, crossed out.

Why this can read lower than eBay

When a listing sells through Best Offer, eBay's public sold page keeps the asking price on display. We measured 5,859 of those sales: the displayed price was higher than what the buyer paid 99.0% of the time, by a median of 14.9%. The full numbers are in the Best Offer gap study. A checker that reads the public page inherits that error, this one does not.

Checking a lot of items

This page is for one item at a time. For a spreadsheet of stock, the same data is an API call with up to 240 sales per request and up to three years of history:

curl -G https://api.compsapi.com/v1/sold \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY" \
  --data-urlencode "q=charizard psa 10" \
  --data-urlencode "days=1095" \
  --data-urlencode "best_offer=1"

Or use the Google Sheets template and keep it in a spreadsheet.

Questions people ask

How do I check what something sold for on eBay? Type the item into the checker above. It searches completed eBay sales, not active listings, and shows what each one sold for, the median, the range and which sales were negotiated through Best Offer. eBay's own sold filter shows the asking price on negotiated sales, so it can read higher.

Is this eBay sold price checker free? Yes. Two searches a day with no account. A free account raises that to 100 searches a month with no card.

Why is the median different from the price I see on eBay? Two reasons. On a sale that closed through an accepted Best Offer, eBay's page shows the asking price, which was higher than the buyer paid on 99.0% of 5,859 sales we measured. And a broad search mixes in accessories and parts, so add a model number or minus words to tighten it.
