CompsAPI alternatives, compared honestly

We wrote this one ourselves, so read it with that in mind. It still names the cases where something else is the better buy, because sending you to the wrong tool wastes both our time.

First, what CompsAPI actually is

CompsAPI is a data API, not an app. You send one GET request with a search and get up to 240 completed eBay sales back as JSON, with up to 1,095 days of history and the price a Best Offer actually closed at. There is no dashboard to log into, nothing is listed for you, and nothing is crosslisted. If you want software that prices and lists your items for you, you want a reseller app, and we say which ones below.

When something else is the better choice

You price a handful of items a day by hand. Use Terapeak inside Seller Hub. It has three years of data, it costs nothing on top of your seller account, and it sits where you already work. An API only pays off once software needs the numbers.

You want the listing written and posted for you. That is a reseller app, not a data API. Those tools identify an item from a photo, draft the listing, publish it and crosslist it. We do none of that, and bolting our data onto a spreadsheet will not match the experience.

Ninety days of history is genuinely enough. If you only ever price current-market items and never look at seasonality or depreciation, the cheaper 90 day feeds do that job. Our depth is only worth paying for if you use it.

You are an approved eBay partner already. If you have cleared Marketplace Insights access, use it. It is first party data straight from eBay.

Where we are hard to replace

Two things on this page's table are ours alone. The first is depth: 1,095 days against the 90 that the public sold page exposes, which is the difference between a current price and a depreciation curve. The second matters more than it sounds. On an accepted Best Offer sale, every source that reads the public sold page reports the asking price, not what the buyer paid. In offer heavy categories that runs high by a wide margin, so a pricing model built on it is wrong in a direction the data itself will never show you. We return the amount the sale actually closed at, flagged per row.

On price

Per unit of data we are inexpensive: the free tier is 100 requests a month with no card, $9 covers 5,000 and $29 covers 25,000, which works out in fractions of a cent per sold listing at the larger plans. That is a fair comparison against other data APIs and a meaningless one against a reseller app that charges per scan, because you are buying different things. Compare us on price with SoldComps and CompSniper, and compare us on fit with everything else.

Try it against your own items

The fastest way to settle any comparison is your own data. Search something you have actually sold and see whether the numbers match what you got. The free tier needs no card and no eBay developer account, and the key is on screen in under a minute. If the answer is that another tool fits you better, reply to the welcome email and tell us; it is useful to know.
