Four official routes exist on paper. One is retired, one returns active listings only, one is approved partners, and the last one is a browser tab.
No. There is no eBay API that an ordinary developer can sign up for and get completed sale prices out of. The call that used to do it was switched off, the modern API that replaced it returns live listings, and the one API that does carry sold data is a limited release you have to be approved for. Here is every route as it stands in October 2026.
| Route | Status | Sold prices | History |
|---|---|---|---|
Finding API, findCompletedItems | Retired | Was the standard route | n/a |
| Browse API | Live, open to all | No, active listings only | n/a |
| Marketplace Insights API | Limited release, approved partners | Yes | 90 days |
| Terapeak, now Product Research | Live, browser only | Yes | Up to 3 years |
| Your own Seller Hub order history | Live | Your own sales only | Limited |
findCompletedItems was the Finding API call that returned sold and completed listings for a keyword, and it is the one every older Stack Overflow answer still points at. eBay deprecated it, switched it off, and then retired the Finding API around it. Code written against it does not fail gracefully, it simply stops returning completed items. The field by field replacement.
The Browse API is the modern, well documented, openly available search API, which is why people reach for it first and why they are disappointed. It searches the live catalogue. There is no sold filter, because sold items are not in the index it reads.
The Marketplace Insights API is the one that actually carries sold data, and it is the official answer eBay gives. It is a limited release: you apply with a business case and approval is restricted to selected partners, so most teams are declined or left waiting. It also stops at 90 days, which is short for anything seasonal. What to do if your application went nowhere.
Terapeak, which now lives inside Seller Hub as Product Research, does have the data and does go back about three years. It has no API, no built in export of research results, and every lookup happens as a signed in seller clicking through a dashboard. It is a good tool and a closed door for software. Is there a Terapeak API?
The next thing everybody tries is fetching eBay's own sold search page. We ran that start to finish on 17 October 2026 and recorded every status code. A plain request with a normal desktop user agent returned 403 on the sold URL and on the active one. A request carrying a full browser header set returned 200 and 198,706 bytes of real results for the active search, and a redirect with an empty body for the sold search. After roughly fifteen requests from one residential address, every request returned 403, active included.
That is the whole problem in one paragraph. Sold data on eBay sits behind a signed in session, and the session is the expensive part. The full run, with the code and the status codes.
Three options, honestly stated. Get approved for Marketplace Insights, if your business case fits and 90 days is enough. Do it by hand in Product Research, if a browser tab is acceptable. Or use a third party API that holds the sessions for you, which is what we are, and we are not the only one.
What CompsAPI returns is keyword search over completed eBay sales as JSON, up to 240 rows a request, up to 1,095 days back, with the accepted amount on Best Offer sales rather than the asking price. A free key is 100 requests a month with every filter enabled.
